ACLJ Warns Obama Is Setting Tone as Pro-Abortion President with Repeal of Abortion Funding Policy

WASHINGTON, Jan. 26, 2009—Just three days after taking office, President Obama signed an Executive Order repealing the so-called "Mexico City Policy" which had barred the use of federal funds by non-governmental agencies abroad for abortion counseling and abortions.  The American Center for Law and Justice (ACLJ) says the move sets a "disappointing tone" that will mean more abortions and less protection for the unborn.

"President Obama wasted no time in letting the nation know what many pro-life Americans suspected - President Obama is committed to promoting pro-abortion policies," said Jay Sekulow, chief counsel of the ACLJ, and one of the nation's leading legal advocates defending life.  His decision to delay the action one day to avoid it coinciding with the 36^th anniversary of the landmark decision legalizing abortion, Roe v. Wade is still a slap in the face to the millions of Americans who find abortion repugnant and the taking of innocent human life. 

"Sadly, this action by President Obama sets a disappointing tone that is likely to result in more abortions and less protection for the unborn," said Sekulow.
