Jay Sekulow, ACLJ Chief Counsel

Jay Sekulow is a nationally recognized and respected defender of constitutional freedoms. As chief counsel for the American Center for Law and Justice (ACLJ), Sekulow has presented oral arguments in numerous Supreme Court cases.  In 2005, TIME Magazine named Sekulow one of the "25 Most Influential Evangelicals" in America, and called the ACLJ "a powerful counterweight" to the ACLU.

In addition to serving as chief counsel for the ACLJ, a law firm and educational organization that specializes in constitutional law, Sekulow is also chief counsel of the European Center for Law and Justice (ECLJ).

Several landmark cases argued by Sekulow before the U.S. Supreme Court have become benchmarks in the area of religious liberty litigation.

• In Board of Education of Westside Community Schools v. Mergens, Sekulow cleared the way for public school students to form religious clubs and organizations on their school campuses.
• His arguments in Lamb's Chapel v. Center Moriches School District, ensured that all religious groups be treated equally with respect to the use of public facilities.
• In McConnel v. FEC, Sekulow ensured that the constitutional rights of young people remain protected with a unanimous decision by the high court guaranteeing that minors can participate in political campaigns.

Twice named one of the "100 Most Influential Lawyers" in the U.S. by the National Law Journal, Sekulow has played a key role in Supreme Court cases involving The Ten Commandments, the Pledge of Allegiance, and abortion.  The work by Sekulow and the ACLJ prompted Business Week to describe the ACLJ as "the leading advocacy group for religious freedom."  In 2007, the Chicago Tribune concluded that the ACLJ has "led the way" in Christian legal advocacy.  Sekulow is a popular guest on nationally televised programs on ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, FOX, MSNBC, CNBC and PBS.  He frequently contributes to national publications and is often quoted in the nation's leading newspapers including USA Today, The New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Washington Post and Washington Times.

Sekulow also brings insight and education to a nationwide audience as he tackles the tough issues of the day with his weekday call-in radio show, Jay Sekulow Live!, which airs on some 600 radio stations, and as host of ACLJ This Week, a weekly television program airing on Trinity Broadcasting Network and FamilyNet.

A cum laude graduate of Mercer University, Sekulow has served as a faculty member of the Office of Legal Education at the United States Department of Justice where he instructed federal attorneys and investigators in First Amendment issues associated with obscenity.  He also received a Ph.D. from Regent University with a dissertation on American Legal History, is author of numerous publications and law articles, and serves as a member of the Board of Trustees for The Supreme Court Historical in Washington, D.C.
