Chuck Colson’s Statement on Governor Mitt Romney’s Speech about Faith and the Presidency
"This is a balanced statement which shows a real appreciation for religious freedom and religious influence in public life."
LANSDOWNE, Va., Dec. 6, 2007—BreakPoint and Prison Fellowship founder Chuck Colson issued the following statement concerning the December 6 speech by Republican presidential nominee Governor Mitt Romney about his views on religious liberty, religious tolerance and how faith would inform his Presidency:
"While I never endorse candidates, believing it is wrong for religious leaders to do so, I do commend Governor Romney for today's remarks. This is a balanced statement which shows a real appreciation for religious freedom and religious influence in public life. Ironically, Romney managed the balancing act more skillfully than did John Kennedy in a similar circumstance in 1960."
Chuck Colson is the founder of PFM, a Christian non-profit organization comprised of Prison Fellowship, the world's largest outreach to prisoners, ex-prisoners and their families, and BreakPoint, which equips Christians to live out their faith in the culture.
