Global Aid Network Works to Get Life-Saving Resources into the Hands of Haitian Earthquake Victims
“In the midst of the tragedy, there is also an opportunity for us to demonstrate God’s love in word and deed.” - Duane Zook, Global Chairman of Global Aid Network
DALLAS, Jan. 18, 2010— Global Aid Network staff in Haiti are in the process of distributing some 1 million pre-positioned meals to Haitian earthquake victims. However, the hardship is great and more food and supplies are urgently needed.
"One of our partners in Haiti expressed his gratitude for the food Global Aid Network provided his orphanage, but then told me they only have enough to sustain the children a few more days," said Duane Zook, global chairman of Global Aid Network, who is in Haiti to assist efforts and assess needs. "Prices in Haiti have skyrocketed and our partners are begging for more help."
To supplement the food already on the ground, Global Aid Network, the relief and development arm of Campus Crusade for Christ, is sending a shipment of supplies and water filters.
In addition to food and clean water, Haitians are desperately seeking the basic medical supplies. "There is a great need for hygiene kits. Many families have lost everything," said Zook. "We drove by a hospital today that was completely flattened. Many other major hospitals in Port Au Prince have been damaged. We continue to hear doctors tell us they are running out of splints, bandages, and medicine."
Global Aid Network is working through some 75 churches and pastors-many of whom participated in 2008 hurricane relief efforts-to distribute food and supplies. In addition to food and supply distribution, they plan to provide training in sanitation and hygiene.
